2008 Ernie May Cutout

Cutout

Cutout

Third in the Cutout Series and the second portrait of Ernesto Repetto. More successful in composition than the first portrait. Both the positive and negative shine nicely.

Speaking of positive and negative. In this series they always go in that order. The intended positive image first and the surprising negative image second.

The positive sees a face on face motif. Some gold jewelry paired with an op-art blue checkerboard. I am pretty sure the jewelry is Bulgari. The intensity of the image is wonderful. Full color at high intensity.

In the negative I ended up Mary J. Blige for Gap. A Scrabble board and some bad advertising. It even hints at Google Glass with a cell phone over the sunglasses. Needless to say, gluing a cheap phone on your sunglasses would be far more cost-effective.

The original image was a picture of Ernie waiting for the NR train. He was just standing beneath the stairs against the white bathroom tiles.

I also post these older images because I could easily use this idea with the plotter cutter. If only the cutter would cooperate. On the most recent piece it shredded my cut latest piece of Karlie Kloss. The technical support team suggested I video the cutter malfunctioning. Thanks for adding to my work load, technical support team.

If a solution is found I would love to do commissioned portraits in this style. I have thought for some time about just doing a series of friends. I just need more hours in the day. That and some energy and a technical support staff that listen.

If the cutter actually cooperated I could bang these out in no time. Banging them out is what needs to happen. I need more quality work faster. Let me see how much I can get done today.
