DJ Mix

I feel I should start the exposition on this DJ Mix with a quote from Monty Python. “And now for something completely different…” That is exactly what this collaborative mix from Ernesto Repetto and myself is all about.

I had started collecting the Salem releases as they were being released with no idea of the micro genre Witch House. I just noticed a sound that was fresh and inspiring. Something dark and suffocating just like the rest of current pop music. Just more honest about it.

Almost immediately other artists started to pop up. With just triangles for names or just symbols replacing certain letters. I instantly fell in love and started to collect everything I could get my hands on.

By now, the genre has been raked over the coals. Dismissed. Diminished. The journalists having paid for the funeral.

But what else is there? Maybe the fake country/folk of Alabama Shakes and their like is where it’s at. All those parrots Winehousing it up.

I will take that White Ring song over the whole lot of them. Play it loud and thrash!

So we wanted to do a DJ Mix that was difficult listening and difficult to create. Something that wasn’t dancefloor friendly. Something fresh and new.

And it was hard. Just getting the tracks in an order that worked was extremely difficult. Warping songs that the artists fiddled with a bit too much was even worse.

That struggle made it one of the best mixes we have done. Easily one of the best covers too.

As always play the embedded soundcloud player but if it’s gone download or listen to the 320 kbps here.
