Number seventeen in the MAZE Series is all about the master copy cut-up. Leonardo appears in slot one mixed with three lovely painted ladies. Extra credit to anyone who can name the three other painters in the comments below.

When I originally cut all the crops for all of the pieces, plus a few alternates, I lay them all across the floor and begin pairing them into sets of four. Some of the sets are based on color, others on thematic imagery like this one.

During the multiple disasters, see previous posts, I lost many great sets. Buildings made of green glazed hexagonal tiles. Underwater landscapes in mirror reflection. This is one set I held back on in hopes that the cutter wouldn’t ruin it.

Today I set out to begin creating the crops for the next twenty pieces. At this stage in my relationship with the machine, I wonder how many I will actually need. How many will meet a grisly end?

If they all complete in four crops, as this one did, I will only need 80. So I guess today’s goal is to make about 120 in total. A long day of work ahead. I should close this now and get to work.
