Polaroids 6

Polaroids 6 sees a return to the use of shooting from a video camera fed into the tiny television I owned at the time. Funny how my weight has increased at the same rate my television has grown.

Back in the nineties I rarely watched television. I mostly used it to watch movies or work with video. Occasionally it would facilitate the acid trip comedown. But that’s it.

This series restarted my work with the behemoth video camera. Just feeding it into the television and then taping and switching back and forth between the two to capture the shots.

It was a thought out process. I was scheduling the models, all friends, to come over for the shoot. Bare shouldered and ready for a fun time. I should have gotten more guys to come over. As always though, my ability to use art to get men naked in the name of art is a non-existent. So it’s mostly women in these sets.

Which is something I should work on. In New York City I always have my camera on me. Initially I purchased the camera because I wanted to take pictures of all the beautiful people I see on the street. I imagined myself going up and asking to take their picture but still have never gotten the nerve up.

I make up excuses not to ask. Wait until I get business cards. Which I now have. The current reason is that I need a better camera. I wonder if I will ever get the nerve up.

It’s a funny thing because I am usually outgoing. Not necessarily an extrovert but not a wallflower. Maybe it’s the fear of New York City street insanity. Or just the continued fear of rejection. But that is well tread territory, so I need to just get over it and make it happen. Maybe when I get that new camera.
